Curriculum

The most prominent principle here is that the curriculum provides the maximum framework for teaching as it were. It gives the general objectives, describes tasks and skills and lists the content of the individual subjects. It is to be considered the basis for responsible planning of teaching sequences by the teacher.

Didactic principles (for a detailed discussion of general didactic principles click here)

Some didactic principles are considered more important than individual elements of content. These principles should inform the teaching irrespective of subjects. They are:

Time

Teaching sequences do not have to correspond with lesson times, but shall depend on the pupils' ability to concentrate on learning. Nor shall the subjects be neatly separated. The time allotments are to ensure that the teacher makes educational offers from all areas mentioned in the curriculum.

Methodology

The core statement is that teachers are free to choose the methodology they think best, but their choice is limited in the content area. In a nutshell: he/she has some choice in the What, but total freedom in the How. The best choice of the adequate teaching method is considered a creative act.

Planning

The teacher is expected to plan classwork for the whole year to allow for regional givens, for networking, and for taking up topical events and other chances for learning, and add more detailed planning as the year progresses. Interests of the pupils should be taken into account as well.

Forms of teaching

The teacher should offer diverse forms of learning like games, autonomous learning, projects, learning through discovery, revision, practise, etc.

Parents

The teacher is expected to inform parents about his classwork. On the other hand, it is considered very helpful for the educational work when parents tell the teacher more about the child.
