Pictures of primary schools in Vorarlberg

Schools look different in different European countries. I believe, however, that part of the spirit of a school is also integrated in the building. There are various types of school buildings in Austria.  The classical and most typical type was built in the first decade of the twentieth century and is shown here at Gisingen, Rankweil Markt and Röthis. Then you have more modern designs (Koblach and Lustenau) and more radical and somewhat spectacular attempts to create light and open spaces for classrooms of the future (Dafins and Marul).

  1. Feldkirch Gisingen: a typical primary school
  2. Lorüns: a successfully renovated school with a modern addition
  3. Dafins: extravagant design in rural mountain village
  4. Koblach: classical village school with three additions
  5. Marul: a small school in the mountains
  6. Lustenau Hasenfeld: a school from the sixties
  7. Rankweil Markt: a typical village school
  8. Röthis: a typical primary school building from 1908, beautifully renovated

Soemthing we had not realised at the beginning is the different amount of time spent at school in the individual countries. So I have the timetable of a nine-year-old pupil as an example. The pupils generally have lunch at home and return to school for afternoon classes if necessary. This is the case on no more than two afternoons.
