MULTIPLICATION

The easiest way to find the total number of items in equal groups is to use multiplication. Multiplication allows you to do repeated addition quickly and efficiently.

The numbers you multiply are called factors. The answer is the product.

100 x 3 = 300

a hundred times three equals three hundred

Associative Property

for Multiplication

 If a and b and c are numbers, then a * (b * c) = (a * b) * c

When multiplying groups, the product is the same no matter the order in which the groups are multiplied.

Cancellation Property for Multiplication If a, b and c are numbers, and if a * b = a * c, then b = c

If the result obtained when group B is multiplied A is the same as the result obtained when group C is multiplied by A, then group B is equal to group A.

Distributive Property of Multiplication If a, b and c are numbers, then a * (b + c) = a * b + a * c

When multiplying sums of groups of missiles, the product is the same as multiplying each group separately and summing the result.
