Black, White, Grey are neutral colours.
Colours that are directly opposite to each other are Complementary colours. For example Red and   Green, Orange and Blue, Yellow and Violet.
White and Black are technically not colours. Black is a combination of all colours and white is devoid   of all colours. Therefore any colour used with Black is weekend in its effect, while with White it is strengthened.
White is a symbol of simplicity, purity and innocence, that is why it is used  more in infant clothing.
Black is slandering and produces dramatic effect.

Definite colours such as Yellow, Red, Green, Purple etc. are called chromatic colours.
