teaching across the curriculum
Change of seating arrangement |
Ask the children to make a circle. or: Ask them to come to the English corner. |
Give the children English names - Identity change |
Give
the children English names for the period of the English session. Reason: The new identity prevents from generalizing negative learning experiences in other subjects, when acquiring the foreign language. Make a list of common English first names. Write the names onto pieces of card. Attach a length of string to each card, so that the children can wear them around their necks. |
Define the English sequences clearly from all the other subjects |
Reason:
Not all children at that age have completed their acquisition of their
mother tongue. You can prevent any interferences with the mother tongue. We recommend an English corner. |
Be monolingual as much as possible |
Reason: The children are supposed “to think” in the foreign language. |
Teach through a multi-sensory way (Visual – Auditory – Kinesthetic) |
Reason: by teaching through a multi-sensory way, it enables you to address the various needs and different learning styles of the children. |
Make sure the children become active. |
Reason:
You create associations between speech and action. Use action songs and a great deal of TPR exercises. |
